We’re glad to announce the release of WP Affiliate Manager version 1.5.0. This version initially centered around a bugfix having to do with a namespace conflict in the latest (3.8.9.x) versions of WP e-Commerce. However in the process, we were able to add several minor enhancements that will enhance WP Affiliate Manager for the future.
While not all screens have had the gettext translation wrappers applied (notably the settings and paypal pages in wp-admin), everything else has been added. Expect a 1.5.x release early in 2013 that will be fully translatable.
As such, we’re putting out a call for translators. We are willing to offer free lifetime use & upgrades of the WP Affiliate Manager to anyone who contributes a full translation in their own language. We have a couple of people already talking to us about certain languages, so if you’re interested, please fill out the form on our translation page and let us know what language you’d like to help us add to WP Affiliate Manager!
money_format() is a native PHP function, but it does not exist on Windows platforms. We added a simple one for those hosting in Windows environments which should get the job done.
First, the sandbox PayPal URL has been fixed. This is mostly used for development/testing purposes, but none-the-less is important.
Also, we removed the requirement for needing the PHP cURL module requirement. Instead, WP Affiliate Manager uses WordPress’ native HTTP request methods.
An interesting sidenote… we discovered a bug where if you went to the 2nd tab on WP Affiliate Manager’s “My Affiliates” screen on our test server, your next navigation point in WordPress would either result in a 404 error, or an endless loop of 302 redirects.
Turns out the bug was caused by a perfect storm of Apache’s mod_security (which is enabled on our test server) and the use of jQuery UI Tabs with a cookie save option. What was occurring was the cookie name was being saved as “ui-tabs-1″ and if your last visited tab was the 2nd tab (index 1) the cookie was saved as “ui-tabs-1=1″. This would be passed with each HTTP request as a cookie header. Since mod_security doesn’t like anything where “1=1″, it was changing the request, causing WordPress to become all sorts of confused. The solution was to name the cookie, so the automatically generated name wasn’t used:

Drop Shop provides a slick, visual way for WP e-Commerce users to add items to their cart. Products can be dragged and dropped into the cart, and regardless of how they’re added, cart contents are displayed at all times for easy editing. Admins choose where to display the cart (sidebar or footer) and can customize the look to match their existing site.

Drop Shop 2.0 can be purchased from the WP e-Commerce store. Once you’ve purchased Drop Shop, you’ll receive an email with a download link. Download the plugin to your hard drive.
Now we’ll need to upload Drop Shop to your WordPress installation. Remember, Drop Shop requires that you have WP e-Commerce (free) and Gold Cart for WP e-Commerce (purchased here) installed as well.
Go to your Plugins menu from the dashboard. Choose “Add New”.
Now select “Upload”. Click on the “Choose File” button and find dropshop. Once you’ve found it, click “install now”.
Now, when prompted, click “activate plugin”.
Once you’ve done so, Drop Shop will appear in your plugin directory.
You’ll control Drop Shop from the widgets menu, under Appearance:
You’ll notice that you now have a Drop Shop widget that you can use.
Now, you must decide if you’d like to place Drop Shop in a sidebar, or in your footer. In the sidebar, it will appear as a vertical column alongside your content. In the footer, it will appear below your content, horizontally.

Once you’ve decided where you should place Drop Shop, drag the widget to the appropriate sidebar. What sidebars are available to you will depend on your theme, not WP e-Commerce. In this example, using the default theme twenty-ten, we have sidebars and footers available. For more on sidebars, visit the WordPress Codex.
Just use your mouse to drag and drop the widget to the sidebar of your choosing. As long as that sidebar is open, the widget will drop right in.
Now, open up the widget by clicking on the downward arrow next to the word “WP e-Commerce Drop Shop”.

It’s important to note that at this point, Drop Shop is visible on the front end of your website, and since we haven’t customized it, its using the default appearance. Its fully functional and requires no further customization, unless you’d like to change how it looks.
The widget title appears at the top of the widget, regardless of where its located. By default it is “Shopping Cart”. You may change it to anything you’d like, or leave it unnamed. You will only see a widget title in the vertical orientation.

You can choose to display Drop Shop horizontally or vertically. If you’ve placed Drop Shop in a sidebar, choose vertical. If you’ve chosen to put it in a footer, choose horizontal. Of course, it will work either way, but may look out of place. If you choose horizontal and to place it in a footer, understand that dropshop will expand to the size of the footer.

Notice that in the horizontal layout, you don’t see a Widget title.

If you choose “dynamic” then Drop Shop is always available. Simply click on any product in your store, and Drop Shop will magically appear.
